Nigeria and EU Strengthen Partnership on Migration Management and Border Security
Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, confirmed the country's commitment to enhancing cooperation with the European Union on migration management and border security. During a meeting in Abuja with EU officials, he outlined measures including the deployment of the Advanced Passenger Information System and increased border personnel to address irregular migration. The partnership aims to shift towards a technology-driven approach in migration governance, with new initiatives like the Single Travel Emergency Passport to assist citizens.

Nigeria's Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, emphasized the country's commitment to collaborating with the European Union on migration management and border security. This was reaffirmed during a meeting with EU officials in Abuja, where he highlighted improvements in border control through technology like the Advanced Passenger Information System.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of about 10,000 personnel, and seven new border control posts are operational. Nigeria aims to enhance its border governance with an 8.3-petabyte data center for surveillance and real-time analysis.
The introduction of the Single Travel Emergency Passport aims to assist citizens in returning home securely. The EU's Johannes Luchner acknowledged Nigeria's progress in reducing irregular migration and expressed optimism for deeper collaboration on security issues.
