Nigeria and World Bank Launch $500 Million SPIN Project for Irrigation and Power
The Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the World Bank, launched the $500 million Sustainable Power and Irrigation for Nigeria (SPIN) Project. This initiative aims to improve dam safety, modernize irrigation infrastructure, and enhance hydropower generation to support food security and economic growth.
The project features four components: institutional strengthening, irrigation modernization, improved dam operations, and effective project management. It is designed to increase Nigeria's resilience to climate variability and aligns with President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. The SPIN Project is expected to build on the earlier TRIMING initiative, impacting 1.7 million people across 14,000 hectares.
