Nigeria Launches Free CNG Conversion Initiative in Lagos and Other Cities
The Nigerian government is offering free vehicle conversions to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in Lagos and four other cities. This initiative aims to reduce fuel costs significantly and promote cleaner energy in transportation.

The Federal Government's Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI) will provide free CNG conversions for vehicle owners at six locations in Lagos State starting on September 13, 2023. The initiative includes locations such as Lekki-Epe Expressway and Ojota Interchange Terminal, where the first 50 vehicles that pass inspection will receive the conversion kits at no cost.
CNG will be available at ₦230 per SCM at NIPCO stations, offering substantial savings over traditional petrol. The PCNGI will extend this program to Abeokuta, Ibadan, Abuja, and Kaduna on September 13 and 14, with a total of over 11,500 CNG-enabled vehicles and 55,000 conversion kits planned. This initiative could lead to a significant shift toward cleaner energy in Nigeria's transportation sector.
