Nippon Shokubai Expands LiFSI Production Capacity at China Joint Venture
Nippon Shokubai plans to enhance LiFSI production in China to meet escalating demand in the EV and ESS sectors. The capacity will increase from 2,400 MT/Y to 12,400 MT/Y by 2027, addressing market requirements for advanced battery materials.

Nippon Shokubai Co., Ltd. will expand its LiFSI production capacity at Hunan Fluopont New Materials Co., Ltd. in China. This expansion will be phased, adding 3,000 MT/Y in fiscal year 2026 and 7,000 MT/Y in fiscal year 2027, resulting in a total capacity of 12,400 MT/Y by 2027.
LiFSI is critical for enhancing performance in lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems, where demand is rapidly increasing. Hunan Fluopont's production capacity has already doubled from 1,200 MT/Y to 2,400 MT/Y, necessitating further investment. The project will be financed through internal funds, optimizing infrastructure use and reducing development time.
