NJ Advances Legislation for Nuclear, Gas, and Energy Storage
New Jersey lawmakers have advanced three significant energy bills aimed at enhancing energy infrastructure and addressing reliability and affordability. Key measures include the Power NJ Act for advanced nuclear projects, streamlined natural gas permitting, and a target for 2,000 MW of storage capacity by 2030.

On May 28, the Assembly Telecommunications and Utilities Committee in New Jersey advanced the Power NJ Act, which directs the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to develop advanced nuclear energy projects. Another approved measure, the New Jersey Natural Gas Modernization Act, aims to expedite permitting for energy projects to enhance grid reliability and facilitate infrastructure upgrades.
A third bill mandates a program to achieve 2,000 megawatts of energy storage capacity by 2030, promoting incentives for diverse storage systems. These initiatives reflect New Jersey’s strategy to expand energy generation, improve reliability, and reduce costs amid rising energy prices, aligning with broader voter support for a mix of energy sources.
