Hitachi and Tokyo Gas Launch Digital Biomethane Tracking; Oishii Opens R&D Center in Tokyo
Hitachi and Tokyo Gas are set to begin testing a digital certification solution for biomethane in August 2026. Oishii has also launched its Open Innovation Center in Tokyo to enhance vertical farming research.

In August 2026, Hitachi and Tokyo Gas will initiate demonstration testing of 'Powered by Carbon Neutral Gas,' a digital certification solution for city gas derived from overseas biomethane. This initiative is part of Hitachi's 'Customer Zero' program and aims to verify that gas consumption in specific facilities results in nearly zero CO2 emissions.
Concurrently, Oishii has established its Open Innovation Center in Hamura, Tokyo, on August 5, 2026, focusing on challenges in vertical farming. This center will support Oishii's expansion following a $150 million Series C round in May 2026. Both projects reflect a broader commitment to sustainability and innovation in Japan's energy and agricultural sectors, potentially leading to advancements in carbon neutrality and food production efficiency.
