Expander Energy Chooses Axens for FT Liquid Upgrading Technology
Expander Energy has selected Axens to provide FT Liquid Upgrading technology for its biofuel production. This partnership aims to enhance the production of sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel in Canada, targeting a final investment decision by December 2026.

Axens will supply its FT Liquid Upgrading technology to Expander Energy for the production of second-generation biofuels from cellulosic feedstock. The technology will first be utilized at two facilities in Canada: Wheatland Bio-Synfuels near Calgary, Alberta, and Mackenzie Biomass Derived E-Fuels in British Columbia.
Both projects are currently advancing through regulatory and financing stages, with a final investment decision expected by December 2026. This collaboration reflects a commitment to lower-carbon fuel solutions, as Expander has also engaged Axens for a wider array of renewable diesel projects. The effectiveness of this partnership could significantly influence the growth of the biofuels sector in Canada.
