Noord-Holland Approves Exemption for New Data Center in Aalsmeer
The province of Noord-Holland has granted an exemption for a new data center in Aalsmeer, allowing preparations to proceed. The facility will cover 10,800 square meters and reach a maximum height of 10 meters, despite general limits for new data centers in the region. The project is expected to enhance local road safety and positively impact the energy system by supplying residual heat to nearby companies.

The province of Noord-Holland has approved an exemption for a new data center on the former flower auction site in Aalsmeer, allowing for the construction of a facility spanning 10,800 square meters with a maximum height of 10 meters. This exemption is significant as it circumvents the provincial Data Center Strategy 2025-2027, which restricts new data centers to under 2,000 square meters. The data center is designed to integrate with local spatial plans and is projected to reduce traffic in the area while contributing residual heat to surrounding businesses for at least fifteen years.
