Nord-Lock Implements Steel Washers at Spence Copper Mine in Chile to Combat Bolt Loosening
Nord-Lock's steel wedge-locking washers were implemented at the Spence copper mine in northern Chile to secure machinery under extreme conditions, preventing bolt loosening due to intense vibrations. The mine, located in the Atacama Desert, produces over 250 million tons of copper annually. Following a recommendation from a distributor, Spence replaced conventional washers on its gearless mill drive system with Nord-Lock washers in fall 2024, resulting in improved equipment operation and safety.

In fall 2024, following a recommendation from a distributor, Spence replaced conventional washers on its gearless mill drive system with Nord-Lock washers. This change has eliminated bolt loosening issues, enhancing equipment operation and safety. Nord-Lock's washers are also deemed effective for use in other industries with less demanding requirements.
