NordSpace Authorized to Construct Atlantic Spaceport Complex Following Environmental Assessment Approval
NordSpace has been authorized to begin construction of the Atlantic Spaceport Complex in Newfoundland and Labrador following the completion of an Environmental Assessment. The spaceport is expected to support up to 20 launches annually, with construction subject to conditions that protect local wetlands and wildlife, including a required survey for Short-Eared Owls and an approved Environmental Protection Plan addressing potential impacts on water supply areas.

NordSpace has received approval to proceed with construction of the Atlantic Spaceport Complex in Newfoundland and Labrador after the Environmental Assessment (EA) review was completed. The EA was registered on November 5, 2025, and approved by the minister on December 19, 2025.
The spaceport is projected to facilitate up to 20 launches annually. While construction can commence, it is subject to conditions aimed at protecting local wetlands and wildlife, including conducting a Short-Eared Owl survey by a qualified biologist before any ground disturbance. The Environmental Protection Plan must address potential impacts of rocket launches on Protected Public Water Supply Areas and include necessary mitigation measures, which require approval from the Water Resources Management Division before construction begins.
