Norfund and E Squared Invest R160 Million in Nafasi Water for Infrastructure Development
Norfund is investing R160 million ($9.8 million) in Nafasi Water Technologies, enhancing its capacity for water infrastructure projects across Southern Africa. The funding addresses critical water security issues, pollution, and climate impacts in the region, aiming to scale waste-to-value initiatives and promote public-private partnerships in wastewater treatment.

Norfund's R160 million investment in Nafasi Water Technologies, alongside E Squared Investments' follow-on funding, will facilitate the development of water infrastructure projects in Southern Africa. These funds will focus on rehabilitating water catchments affected by mining, expanding water reuse, and innovating technologies for water reclamation.
Nafasi's integrated model of developing, financing, and operating water treatment facilities positions it as a key player in addressing regional water challenges. Initiatives aim to enhance water security, reduce environmental damage, and create jobs, particularly in areas like Mpumalanga. The partnership exemplifies a growing trend in blended finance and public-private collaboration to tackle systemic issues in Africa's water sector.
