North Carolina Allocates $244 Million for Water Infrastructure Upgrades
North Carolina's Governor Josh Stein has announced over $244 million in funding for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements across 28 counties. This initiative aims to combat contamination from forever chemicals and enhance community resilience against flooding.

North Carolina is investing over $244 million to enhance water and wastewater infrastructure in 28 counties. The funding, approved by the State Water Infrastructure Authority on July 15, includes loans for various projects, such as $13.4 million for Newport's water treatment improvements and $10.1 million for Simpson's wastewater collection upgrades.
Other notable allocations include $35 million for Hendersonville's wastewater treatment facility flood mitigation and $26.6 million for Graham's water treatment reliability. The funding sources include the Clean Water State Revolving Fund and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
This comprehensive initiative is designed to reduce PFAS contamination and replace aging lead pipes, improving public health and infrastructure resilience. There is a risk that continued contamination could undermine these efforts if not properly managed.
