Northern Graphite to Restart Okanjande Mine in 2027 for Battery Materials
Northern Graphite aims to restart the Okanjande Graphite Mine in Namibia by 2027, targeting 31,000 tonnes per year. This move is crucial for supplying material to their planned Battery Anode Material facility in Saudi Arabia, set to commence production in 2028.

Northern Graphite plans to restart the Okanjande Graphite Mine in Namibia in 2027, focusing on producing 31,000 tonnes per year of battery-grade graphite concentrate. The restart will utilize a measured and indicated graphite resource of 1.6 million tonnes and will occur within one year of a construction decision, supported by a capital requirement of US$34.6 million and the mine's fully permitted status.
The operation will also incorporate a 19-20 megawatt solar power plant to align with lower-carbon production goals. Okanjande, previously in operation from 2017 to 2018, is positioned strategically with established transport links to Walvis Bay Port, making it a cost-effective supply source. This initiative is part of Northern's strategy to integrate upstream production in Namibia with downstream processing in Saudi Arabia, enhancing its role in the global battery materials market.
