Northern Ireland to Save £219 Million in Gas Costs by 2025 Through Renewable Electricity
Northern Ireland is set to avoid £219 million in gas costs in 2025, with 47% of its electricity generated from renewables. This includes £158 million savings from displacing gas and £61 million from carbon credits. Renewable generation in 2025 amounted to 3,198 GWh, resulting in a reduction of nearly 1 million tonnes of CO₂. Renewable energy has saved over £1.1 billion since 2022, highlighting the need for policies like the Renewable Electricity Price Guarantee to further enhance local energy production and economic growth.
