Northern Territory Government Invests $82.1 Million in Battery Storage Projects
The Northern Territory Government is investing $82.1 million in battery energy storage to enhance power reliability in Alice Springs and Katherine. Two projects, featuring batteries of 12 MW and 21.5 MW capacities, aim to stabilize the grid and support increased solar integration.

The Northern Territory is set to enhance energy security with a combined investment of $82.1 million in two battery energy storage projects. Pacific Energy has been contracted to deliver these systems, including a 12 MW battery at Owen Springs Power Station and a 21.5 MW battery at Katherine Power Station.
Construction is expected to begin soon, with both projects scheduled for completion by early 2028. These initiatives aim to address the challenges of integrating renewable energy sources and improving grid stability in isolated regions. The investments are anticipated to foster local job creation and economic growth by providing the energy stability necessary for new infrastructure projects.
