Norway has revised its defense spending plan for 2025-2036, increasing the budget by NKr115 billion ($11.8 billion) to prioritize new anti-submarine warfare (ASW) frigates and helicopters. The plan includes the acquisition of Type 26 frigates and Type 212CD submarines, with funding to accelerate procurement. Norway plans to purchase at least five Type 26 frigates, with the first delivery expected in 2030. The acquisition of helicopters for the army and special forces has been postponed, and the long-range uncrewed surveillance aircraft program has been canceled.
Funding is allocated for Northrop Grumman AARGM-ER missiles for the F-35 fleet, with contracts expected by 2026. Parliamentary approval is required for the proposed changes.
