Nova Scotia Aims for 80% Renewable Energy by 2030, with New Wind Farms and Wind West Project Plans

WIND ENERGY

Nova Scotia is on track to achieve its goal of 80% renewable energy by 2030, according to the provincial Energy Department. This will be supported by the completion of five new onshore wind farms by the end of 2023, adding 480 megawatts of capacity.

By 2028, an additional four wind farms could increase capacity to nearly 1,000 megawatts, contributing to a 30% rise in renewable energy. The timeline for the offshore Wind West project remains uncertain, but development bids are expected by summer 2026, with potential energy delivery by 2033.

The project, valued at $60 billion, could provide $100 million annually to the province through a proposed four percent levy on gross revenues. The province is open to various proposals for Wind West.
