NPower Project Initiates Two Pilot Plants in Murcia for Nutrient Recovery from Wastewater
Cetaqua has launched two pilot plants in Murcia to recover over 80% nitrogen and up to 45% phosphorus from urban wastewater. This initiative addresses environmental challenges linked to nutrient pollution while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Cetaqua's two pilot plants at Águilas and Cabezo Beaza wastewater treatment facilities aim to recover more than 80% of nitrogen and 30-45% of phosphorus from urban wastewater. The facilities employ distinct technologies: the Águilas plant focuses on nitrogen recovery through a bioreactor and advanced filtration processes to produce nitrogen-rich reclaimed water, while the Cabezo Beaza facility targets phosphorus recovery by precipitating struvite from sludge.
Funded by Horizon Europe, the NPower project will run from 2025 to 2028, evaluating six technological solutions and producing eight fertilizers for agricultural use. The outcomes may offer scalable solutions for nutrient recovery, enhancing sustainability across Europe.
