NSWC Crane Collaborates with Indiana State Universities for Trusted AI Workforce Development
The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division (NSWC Crane) has partnered with Indiana University, Notre Dame, and Purdue University to develop a workforce skilled in Trusted Artificial Intelligence (AI). Launched in June, this initiative is part of a broader program aimed at addressing Department of Defense needs through research and skill-building over several years.

NSWC Crane, in collaboration with Indiana University, The University of Notre Dame, and Purdue University, is advancing a workforce development program focused on Trusted AI. This initiative is financed by the Office of the Undersecretary of Defense for Research and Engineering's Trusted & Assured Microelectronics program.
The project emphasizes interdisciplinary research and aims to prepare students for challenges in the defense sector. It seeks to establish a pipeline for a skilled workforce while developing a Validation and Verification framework to ensure the reliability of AI systems.
The consortium's collaborative approach involves multiple academic disciplines, enhancing innovation potential. There are risks tied to the security and reliability of AI systems, making this a crucial endeavor for national defense.
