NTPC Advances Energy Storage and Renewable Projects with New Capacity Goals
NTPC Limited is enhancing its energy storage capabilities, targeting a total of 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032. The company is constructing 5 GWh of BESS and nearly 18 GW of pumped storage projects to facilitate renewable integration and grid stability.

NTPC Limited is expanding its energy storage and renewable energy initiatives, with current projects including 5 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) at thermal power stations. The company is executing 1,320 MW of battery storage projects, consisting of 320 MW standalone and 1,000 MW co-located with solar assets.
Additionally, NTPC is developing a pumped storage hydro pipeline totaling nearly 18 GW in collaboration with subsidiaries. As of FY26, NTPC Group's renewable capacity reached 12,060 MW, with NGL contributing significantly.
The firm aims for 8 GW annual additions, with projections of 8,237 MW in FY27 and 8,135 MW in FY28, while considering inorganic acquisitions to expedite growth. Transmission connectivity remains a challenge, with only 57% secured for FY27 projects.
