Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, Chief Executive of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), emphasized the need to strengthen the African Petroleum Regulators' Forum (AFRIPERF) to harmonize energy regulations across Africa and attract investment in the oil and gas sector. Speaking at the Nigerian International Energy Summit in Abuja, she stated that inconsistent regulatory frameworks hinder cross-border energy projects and increase investment risks.
AFRIPERF aims to establish regulatory convergence and accelerate project execution. Eyesan highlighted Africa's significant natural resources, holding about 8% of global oil and gas reserves and nearly 30% of critical minerals, as key to driving industrialization and inclusive growth.
She urged for coordinated policies and a unified African voice in global discussions to maximize these resources. Additionally, she mentioned the establishment of the Africa Energy Bank to mobilize capital for energy projects amid declining global investment in fossil fuels.
