NUS Launches Industry-Academia Project for Ammonia-Fuelled Marine Engines
HYDROGENAMMONIA
The National University of Singapore (NUS) launched an industry-academia collaboration on 4 February 2026 to develop ammonia-fuelled marine engines, targeting decarbonisation in shipping. Led by the NUS Centre for Hydrogen Innovations, the project will explore an in-cylinder reforming gas recirculation (IRGR) engine concept to enhance combustion efficiency and minimize emissions.
Funded by the Singapore Maritime Institute, the initiative will involve partners including Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Nanyang Technological University, and marine engine manufacturer Daihatsu. The project is set to run for three years from its launch.
