NYK Line Partners with Golden Island and Yara for Ammonia Bunkering in Singapore
A collaboration between NYK Line, Golden Island, and Yara aims to develop low-carbon ammonia as a marine fuel in Singapore. This initiative supports the shipping industry's decarbonization goals and seeks to establish a sustainable ammonia supply chain in the region.

NYK Line, Golden Island, and Yara Clean Ammonia have formed a partnership to explore low-carbon ammonia as a marine fuel in Singapore, targeting operational commencement within this decade. NYK will leverage its expertise in LNG bunkering and ammonia carriers, while Golden Island offers extensive experience in Singapore's bunkering sector.
Yara will focus on production and handling capabilities. This collaboration follows the companies' discussions initiated in early 2024 and builds on a previous agreement for the world's first ammonia-fuelled medium gas carrier.
The trio will conduct a joint trial for ship-to-ship refuelling to establish safety protocols for commercial operations, reinforcing Singapore's position as a hub for next-generation marine fuels. As ammonia is poised to significantly reduce CO2 emissions, this partnership may accelerate the shipping industry's transition towards sustainable fuel alternatives.
