New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG) has initiated a $4.7 million upgrade to the Cayuga Heights Substation in Ithaca, benefiting over 5,000 customers. The project includes the installation of a new 34.5 kV capacitor bank and is part of a broader initiative involving nearly $46 million to enhance various substations in the region.
Construction commenced in March and is expected to be completed by 2027. Additionally, NYSEG is proposing $16 billion for grid modernization under its Powering NY rate proposal, focusing on improving reliability and efficiency. These upgrades aim to reduce outages and support New York's energy objectives.
