Oakland University Partners with Fairmount Properties for On-Campus Data Center Development

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

Oakland University is advancing a proposal for a new data center in collaboration with Fairmount Properties, located in Parking Lot 35 near a DTE substation. The facility will replace OU's current data center in Dodge Hall, allowing for the expansion of research space and a new artificial intelligence institute.

The data center will have a capacity of 26 megawatts and OU plans to seek tenants for the facility. A feasibility study is set to begin shortly, assessing environmental impacts, utility services, site plans, market potential, and the capability of internet service providers. Completion of due diligence is expected by spring or summer 2026, after which a business plan will be presented to OU's board.
