Oceanside's Energy Infrastructure Project Recognized with Smart 20 Award for $26 Million Savings
Oceanside's Energy Infrastructure Upgrade Program received a Smart 20 Award for innovation at the Smart Cities Connect Conference. In partnership with OPTERRA Energy Services, the program is projected to save the city $26 million and reduce electricity consumption by 4,200 megawatt-hours annually. The initiative includes solar generation, energy storage, LED upgrades, and HVAC improvements, leveraging $3.2 million from the Inflation Reduction Act and $150,000 from SGIP. The program supports sustainability, local workforce development, and community engagement.

The City of Oceanside's Energy Infrastructure Upgrade Program has been awarded a Smart 20 Award for being one of the most innovative government infrastructure projects globally. In collaboration with OPTERRA Energy Services, the project is expected to yield $26 million in savings and decrease electricity consumption by 4,200 megawatt-hours per year while avoiding over 2,900 metric tons of CO₂ emissions.
Key components include 1.6 MW of solar generation, a 250 kW energy storage system, and extensive upgrades across various city facilities.
