Odisha Congress Initiates Probe into Police Actions at Sijimali Protests
A 13-member committee has been established by the Odisha Congress to investigate police actions against protestors in Sijimali. This inquiry follows violent confrontations resulting in significant injuries to both police and local residents amidst ongoing disputes over industrial projects.

The Odisha Congress formed a 13-member committee to examine alleged police excesses during protests by displaced individuals in Sijimali, Rayagada district. Chaired by MP Saptagiri Ulaka, the team is set to present its findings to the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) following its visit on Friday.
Recent protests against a bauxite project escalated into violence, with over 60 individuals injured, including around 40 police officers. The Congress party criticized governmental inaction regarding displacement issues linked to mineral extraction, emphasizing a pattern of neglect for affected communities. The outcome of this inquiry may influence future political actions regarding industrial projects in Odisha.
