Odisha Government to Establish Modern Cattle Shelters in Bhubaneswar with Rs 40 Crore Investment

NEWS

In a significant move to tackle the growing issue of stray cattle in Bhubaneswar, the Odisha government has announced plans to construct modern cattle shelters, known as Adarsh Goshala, with an investment of approximately Rs 40 crore. This initiative aims to enhance urban safety and promote a cleaner, more organized city environment. The Commissioner has already identified suitable land for the construction, and work is set to commence shortly across five designated locations.

Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra emphasized the potential benefits of this project, which not only seeks to keep the roads free of stray cattle but also aims to utilize cow dung in innovative ways. The excreta can be transformed into valuable products such as biogas and compost, thereby contributing to sustainable waste management practices.

Construction efforts have already commenced in other regions, including Jharsuguda, Baripada, Balasore, and Jaleswar, with the foundation stone for the Bhubaneswar facility set to be laid soon. Each Adarsh Goshala will be equipped with various amenities to ensure the comfort of the cattle, further promoting their welfare.

Moreover, the initiative is expected to yield a range of products, including medicines derived from gomutra (cow urine) and other by-products, enhancing the economic viability of cow farming in the region. As the government moves forward with this comprehensive approach, it hopes to establish a model for urban cattle management that balances human safety with the welfare of animals.
