Odisha's Keonjhar Targeted for Industrial Transformation with New Power Initiatives
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi plans to develop Keonjhar into a major industrial hub, akin to Jamshedpur, supported by a Rs 1,647 crore power infrastructure project. The new grid substation and transmission lines aim to enhance power supply for over 7.17 lakh consumers, ensuring sustainable growth in the region.

The Odisha government has initiated a Rs 1,647 crore project to establish a 420/220 kV grid substation in Joda block, aimed at transforming Keonjhar into a significant industrial center. This initiative will benefit around 7.17 lakh consumers in areas including Keonjhar Sadar and Barbil by providing reliable electricity, crucial for balancing industrial and domestic demands.
The project features five new transmission lines and employs Hotline Maintenance technology for uninterrupted service. Additionally, a new State Load Despatch Centre (SLDC) will enhance management capabilities, integrating 70 grids for quicker fault resolution.
By 2036, Odisha plans to construct 34 new substations, including the first 765 kV grids in various districts. The government is also advancing industrial projects, including a mega steel plant proposed by JFE Steel. These developments are expected to solidify Keonjhar's role in the state’s economic framework.
