Offgrid Energy Labs is advancing its ZincGel technology through a staged commercialization strategy aimed at large-scale deployment. Founded at IIT Kanpur, the company focuses on creating safer, sustainable, and scalable battery solutions for stationary applications.

ZincGel utilizes widely available materials—carbon, zinc, and bromine—enhancing supply-chain independence and lowering costs while achieving round-trip efficiencies comparable to lithium batteries. The company plans to establish a demonstration manufacturing facility to produce commercial cells, followed by global certification and pilot projects in microgrids, industrial backup, and renewable energy storage.

This strategy addresses gaps in safety, cost, sustainability, and supply chain constraints, allowing countries like India to develop local energy storage capacity without dependency on external resources. Offgrid Energy Labs aims to transition to early commercial deployments within the next year.
