Ofwat has confirmed that Southern Water has completed enforcement actions from its 2019 investigation, involving £126m in penalties and over 1,000 completed actions across 293 wastewater treatment works. The company must now develop a remediation plan to ensure compliance with broader wastewater obligations, supported by £13.5m in shareholder investment.

This includes £2 million for wetland restoration in Southampton and £5.5 million for a sewer level monitor program. The work is to be completed by 2030, and all funding will not come from customer bills. Ofwat's latest assessment indicates Southern Water needs to enhance compliance beyond the scope of the prior investigation.
