Ohio state Representatives Gary Click and Kellie Deeter introduced legislation to create a bipartisan Data Center Study Commission in response to concerns regarding the rapid expansion of data centers across the state. The commission would consist of 13 members appointed by state leaders and hold at least four public hearings over 120 days.
Local communities, particularly in rural areas, have raised issues related to land use, environmental impact, and the loss of farmland due to data center development. The commission aims to gather input from stakeholders and produce a report to guide future decisions, addressing the confusion and concerns of residents affected by data center projects.
