Oil India Limited and RVUNL Forge Joint Venture to Develop 1.2 GW Renewable Energy Projects in Rajasthan
In a significant development for India's renewable energy landscape, Oil India Limited has entered into a joint venture agreement with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RVUNL) to create a new company dedicated to the establishment of 1.2 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity in Rajasthan. This partnership, formalized in Jaipur, will see the development of 1,000 megawatts (MW) of solar power and 200 MW of wind energy within RVUNL's renewable energy park.
The agreement underscores the collaborative potential between Oil India, a prominent Maharatna public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and RVUNL, a state-owned utility known for its extensive experience in power project development. The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including RVUNL's Chairman and Managing Director Devendra Shringi, and Oil India's Executive Director for Business Development, Ranjan Goswami.
This joint venture is set to harness the strengths of both companies, focusing on a diversified approach that includes solar, wind, and green hydrogen initiatives. By supplying clean energy to distribution companies and commercial customers, the collaboration aims to bolster India's renewable energy ecosystem while contributing to the nation's broader goal of transitioning to a greener economy.
To further advance its clean energy strategy, Oil India has established a wholly owned subsidiary, Oil Green Energy Limited (OGEL). This entity is tasked with driving initiatives across various renewable sectors, including compressed biogas, energy storage, and green hydrogen. The overarching objective remains clear: to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 while ensuring sustainable financial returns.
The formation of this joint venture is a pivotal step toward realizing India's ambitious renewable energy targets. It not only fosters innovation and collaboration but also strengthens the country's commitment to a cleaner, more sustainable energy future. As the partnership unfolds, it promises to play a crucial role in advancing India's green energy transition.
