Oklahoma AG Files Petition Against Trump-Supported Aluminum Smelter Project
Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond has filed a petition to block a proposed $4 billion aluminum smelter backed by President Trump, citing concerns over foreign ownership and environmental risks. The project, which is expected to be the largest aluminum production facility in the U.S., has faced local opposition due to its anticipated negative impact on the community.

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond filed a petition on June 2 to prevent the construction of a $4 billion aluminum smelter in Inola. The project is primarily owned by Emirates Global Aluminum (60%) and Century Aluminum (40%) and has received endorsements from the Trump administration.
Concerns raised include the facility's environmental impact, electricity consumption comparable to a major city, and its proximity to residential areas. The smelter's operations could strain Oklahoma's power grid and lead to hazardous waste production.
Drummond's legal action follows Trump's endorsement of gubernatorial candidate Mike Mazzei, signaling potential political motivations behind the petition. The outcome may affect local economic prospects and energy policies.
