Oman Implements Solar PV Project for Water Desalination
Oman enhances renewable energy integration in water desalination with a 6.5 MW solar PV facility supporting GS Inima Barka-5. This project is part of a broader trend in the region aimed at reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable energy sources.

GS Inima Barka-5 Desalination Co SAOC has commenced operations of a 6.5 MW solar PV facility, supporting its energy transition goals. Nafath Renewable Energy, the EPC contractor, confirmed the project's commissioning, attended by Nama Power and Water Procurement Company and consultant OCA Global.
This solar facility will provide up to 11% of the Barka 5 desalination plant's energy needs until 2044, backed by a Power Purchase Agreement established in March 2025. The plant, launched in September 2024 with a $135 million investment, will serve multiple governorates in Oman. This marks only the second solar PV project for desalination in Oman, following a larger 17 MWp facility inaugurated in November 2023.
