Oman Plans Three Green Aluminium Projects in Duqm SEZ
Three low-carbon aluminium projects are planned in Duqm, Oman, signaling a shift towards sustainable industrial practices. The initiatives are set to utilize green hydrogen and aim for significant production capacities by 2030.

The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD) in Oman is planning three major low-carbon aluminium projects, leveraging green hydrogen and other renewable energy sources expected to be operational around 2030. A notable project includes a smelter with a capacity of 530,000 tonnes per annum (tpa) backed by CMOC Group Limited, with investments around RO 2.4 billion.
Additional projects, such as the Geely Green Aluminium Project and the Pearl Green Iron and Aluminium Project, are also in the early stages of development. Oman aims to produce 30 million tonnes of steel annually by 2050, integrating hydrogen-intensive technologies to enhance green steel production. SEZAD serves as a strategic platform to reduce costs and attract global investments in low-carbon sectors.
