Omani Students Develop Smart Hydroponic System for Sustainable Home Farming
A student-led initiative from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Musannah has created a smart hydroponic system that merges fish farming and plant cultivation into a self-operating unit. This innovation addresses food security and environmental sustainability, aiming to modernize home agriculture through technology.

Blue Root, a student-led company, has developed a self-powered smart hydroponic system that transforms residences into sustainable farms by integrating aquatic and plant life management. The system continuously monitors conditions such as temperature and ammonia levels, providing real-time data and alerts via an electronic platform.
Targeting both B2C and B2B markets, Blue Root aims to deliver aesthetically pleasing and functional agricultural solutions. The project gained recognition at the Sustainable Student Companies Exhibition and ranked among the top 40 in the INJAZ Oman competition. This initiative showcases the potential of university students in Oman to address real-world challenges through innovative research and applications.
