OMV Petrom Increases Green Hydrogen Capacity at Petrobrazi Refinery
OMV Petrom expands green-hydrogen production at Petrobrazi to 55 MW with a new 35 MW electrolyser. This development supports the production of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel (HVO), aiming to significantly reduce emissions in refining processes.

OMV Petrom is enhancing its Petrobrazi refinery's green-hydrogen production capacity to 55 MW with a new 35 MW electrolyser. The project, funded by EUR 29 million from Romania's National Recovery and Resilience Plan, will enable the production of approximately 4,700 tonnes of green hydrogen annually to support the construction of a 250,000-ton-per-year SAF/HVO unit.
The total installed capacity across two projects will reach 55 MW, with an estimated annual output of 8,000 tonnes. This initiative aligns with the company's goal to position itself as a major sustainable fuel producer in Southeast Europe, reducing CO2 emissions by at least 65% over the lifecycle of the fuels produced.
