OMV has secured €123 million in funding from Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH for the construction of a 140 MW green hydrogen plant in Bruck an der Leitha, expected to produce 23,000 tons of hydrogen annually by late 2027. The project aims to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 150,000 tons per year and will utilize renewable energy sources, with a joint venture agreement with Masdar for its financing and operation. Completion is anticipated in early 2026, pending final approvals.

Austria is funding the construction of one of Europe’s largest hydrogen plants, with OMV building a 140 MW facility in Bruck an der Leitha, set to produce up to 23,000 tons of green hydrogen annually starting late 2027. The project, which is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 150,000 tons per year, has received a production grant of up to €123 million from Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws) and was positively evaluated by the European Hydrogen Bank (EHB).
OMV's investment in the project is in the mid-hundreds of millions of euros, and the plant will utilize renewable energy sources including wind, solar, and hydro power. A joint venture agreement with Masdar for financing, construction, and operation of the facility was signed in November 2025, with completion expected in early 2026, pending final documentation and approvals.
