OMV Secures €123M Austrian Funding for 140MW Green Hydrogen Plant in Bruck an der Leitha
OMV has secured €123 million in funding for its 140MW green hydrogen project in Bruck an der Leitha, Austria. The funding, obtained through a partnership with Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH, comes from a national subsidy auction aimed at green hydrogen initiatives.
The facility will utilize Siemens Energy PEM electrolysers to produce up to 23,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, aiding in the decarbonization of OMV's Schwechat refinery by reducing carbon emissions by 150,000 tonnes per year. The project is scheduled to commence operations by the end of 2027 and includes a 22km pipeline connecting the electrolyser to the refinery.
A joint venture with Masdar, which acquired a 49% stake in the project, is expected to be finalized in early 2026. This initiative is a key component of Austria's hydrogen strategy and OMV's Strategy 2030.
