Ontario Invests $250 Million to Expand Medical Isotope Production with Bruce Power and Saugeen Ojibway Nation
The Ontario government is supporting a $250 million investment to enhance medical isotope production through a partnership between Bruce Power and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. This funding is facilitated via the Indigenous Opportunities Financing Program and aims to double isotope production by 2030, creating jobs and reinforcing Ontario's position in the global isotopes market while promoting Indigenous economic participation.

Ontario is providing a $250 million investment guarantee to Bruce Power and the Saugeen Ojibway Nation (SON) to expand medical isotope production. This initiative, supported by the Indigenous Opportunities Financing Program, aims to double production by 2030, addressing global cancer treatment demand and strengthening the economy.
The partnership includes a $10 million annual revenue-sharing agreement between Saugeen First Nation and Chippewas of Nawash Unceded First Nation. Bruce Power has been a leader in this sector for over 35 years, producing isotopes like cobalt-60 and lutetium-177, essential for cancer treatment and medical equipment sterilization. The investment enhances Ontario's nuclear capabilities and promotes economic reconciliation for Indigenous communities.
