OpenAI Enhances U.S. Hardware Supply Chain Amid Trillions in Data Center Investments
OpenAI is strengthening its U.S. hardware supply chain to support expansions in consumer devices, robotics, and cloud data centers. The company has issued requests for proposals to American manufacturers for components like chips and cooling equipment.
OpenAI plans to invest trillions in data centers and has acquired an AI device startup co-founded by Jony Ive. A partnership with Foxconn will enable U.S.-based hardware design and production. OpenAI's 'Stargate' project aims to invest $500 billion in AI infrastructure. Meanwhile, SK hynix plans to open a chip factory in South Korea in February 2027 and will begin producing high bandwidth memory chips next month to meet increasing demand for AI infrastructure.
