Operational Launch of Australia's First Graphite-to-Anode Facility in Townsville
Graphinex's facility in Townsville is now converting raw graphite into battery-grade anodes, enhancing Queensland's role in the critical minerals supply chain. The Crisafulli Government is advocating for federal support to fund additional critical minerals projects, aiming to create over 200 jobs in the region.

The operational launch of Australia’s first facility for converting raw graphite into battery-ready anodes by Graphinex in Townsville marks a significant development in Queensland's critical minerals sector. The Crisafulli Government has streamlined approval processes for the Esmeralda Graphite Project, which is expected to generate over 200 jobs in regional Queensland.
With a Letter of Interest for $1.3 billion from the Export-Import Bank of the United States, Queensland is positioned to become a key supplier of battery anodes for electric vehicles and other technologies. The government is seeking federal funding for four additional critical minerals projects, including a $227 million upgrade of the Mt Isa Rail Line and processing expansions in Townsville. This initiative could bolster Queensland's economic growth and attract further investment in the critical minerals sector.
