Opposition Grows Against Proposed Data Centers Near Meramec River in Missouri
Residents and ecologists in Franklin County, Missouri, express concerns over two proposed data centers' impact on local water resources and ecosystems. The facilities could significantly affect water supply and pollution levels, risking the integrity of the Meramec River and its surrounding wildlife.

Residents in Franklin County are opposing two proposed data centers, one at Crooked Creek Farm and another at Diamond Farms. The facilities could consume up to 6.5 million gallons of water daily, equivalent to the needs of 105,000 county residents.
Concerns include potential PFAS contamination and thermal pollution affecting the Meramec River, a crucial water source for 340,000 people in the St. Louis area. The Missouri Department of Conservation's review highlighted endangered species risks, including the eastern hellbender and various mussel species. With ongoing development pressures, the community fears long-term ecological damage and water resource depletion.
