Significant progress has been made on the Orkney Link project, including the completion of all roof cladding at the Finstown substation. Currently, more than 90% of trenching and duct installation for the underground cable route is finished, with joint bay construction exceeding 30%.
Local contractors are engaged in internal electrical and masonry tasks, while preparations for primary electrical equipment installation are underway for summer. Future activities include wall cladding and internal fit-out at the Finstown substation, with land cable pulling expected to start in late summer. The project aims for completion of the underground land cable installation by 2027, which could enhance regional energy infrastructure and support renewable energy initiatives.
