Pakistan Increases Gas Allocation to Power Sector Amid Shortfalls
The Pakistani government has shifted gas supplies to the power sector, raising allocation to 150mmcfd to combat electricity shortages. A persistent shortfall of 300mmcfd remains, despite efforts to boost generation, highlighting ongoing energy challenges.

Gas allocation for the power sector in Pakistan has been raised to 150mmcfd after diverting supplies from the CNG sector, previously set at 48mmcfd. This adjustment comes as demand reaches approximately 450mmcfd, resulting in a 300mmcfd shortfall that limits gas-fired plant output.
Hydropower generation has been prioritized, with current output at around 6,000MW from an installed capacity of 11,500MW. An LNG cargo scheduled for April 30 is anticipated to alleviate some of the power sector's shortages. Additionally, Agritech Limited is allocated 24mmcfd for fertiliser production, and captive power plants receive 30mmcfd, while domestic consumers are prioritized during peak cooking hours.
