Palmerston North City Council to Initiate 12-Month Soft Plastics Recycling Trial
Palmerston North City Council plans to launch a 12-month soft plastics recycling trial starting July, pending final approval. The trial will include free drop-off points for household soft plastic packaging and is conducted in partnership with the Packaging Forum's Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme New Zealand. The initiative requires a capital investment of $82,600 and an annual operating cost of $28,000, funded through existing budgets.

Palmerston North City Council is set to initiate a 12-month soft plastics recycling trial in July, pending final approval from the full Council. The trial will provide free drop-off points for household soft plastic packaging, including items like bread bags and shopping bags.
It will be implemented in partnership with the Packaging Forum's Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme New Zealand, allowing collected materials to be recycled into new products locally. The trial requires a capital investment of $82,600 for a storage shed at Awapuni Resource Recovery Park, alongside an annual operating cost of $28,000, to be covered by existing budgets.
