Palmerston North City Council to Initiate 12-Month Soft Plastics Recycling Trial

CIRCULAR ECONOMY & RECYCLING

Palmerston North City Council is set to initiate a 12-month soft plastics recycling trial in July, pending final approval from the full Council. The trial will provide free drop-off points for household soft plastic packaging, including items like bread bags and shopping bags.

It will be implemented in partnership with the Packaging Forum's Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme New Zealand, allowing collected materials to be recycled into new products locally. The trial requires a capital investment of $82,600 for a storage shed at Awapuni Resource Recovery Park, alongside an annual operating cost of $28,000, to be covered by existing budgets.
