Pan Ocean Expands VLCC Fleet with Newbuilding Order Exceeding $1 Billion
Pan Ocean's investment in a new VLCC and acquisitions surpasses $1 billion, reflecting a strategic push in the tanker market.

Pan Ocean has announced an investment of approximately $122 million for the construction of a single Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), scheduled for delivery by the end of 2029. In addition to this newbuilding, the company has ordered four Newcastlemax bulk carriers for about $308 million and agreed to purchase 10 secondhand VLCCs from SK Shipping for $668 million, pushing its total investment in the sector above $1 billion.
The new VLCC will feature potential conversion capabilities to ammonia fuel, aligning with industry shifts towards alternative fuels. As of early March 2026, 47 VLCCs have been ordered globally, with a significant portion of the active fleet aged over 16 years, indicating a robust demand for modern vessels.
