Parbati Hydropower Project Resumes Operations After 19-Year Leak Resolution
NHPC Limited has resolved a 10-year leakage issue at the Parbati Hydropower Project in Himachal Pradesh, enabling power generation to restart. The repair utilized advanced waterproof technology and cost approximately ₹20 crore.

NHPC Limited has addressed a significant leakage problem in the head race tunnel of the Parbati Hydropower Project, allowing power generation to recommence. The nearly 7-kilometre tunnel had faced leakage for a decade, disrupting operations.
The recent repair, which cost around ₹20 crore, was executed over three months using waterproof geo-membrane technology by a Chennai-based engineering firm. Previous attempts by multiple companies to fix the issue had been unsuccessful. This resolution may enhance India's hydropower capacity and stabilize energy supply in the region, potentially influencing future investments in infrastructure.
