Parker County Commissioners Discuss Data Centers and Declare Greyhounds Day

DATA AND AI INFRASTRUCTURE

The Parker County Commissioners Court meeting addressed the implications of data centers, which serve as hubs for technological systems including AI and servers. Chris Strayer, executive director of the Parker County Economic Development Council, provided insights on land, electric, and water usage concerns.

He estimated that a typical data center consumes 150,000 gallons of water daily and occupies 20 acres. Strayer highlighted that hyperscale data centers operated by companies like Google and Microsoft require significantly more resources.

He noted potential tax revenue benefits from data centers that could alleviate residential tax burdens. Residents expressed concerns about the impact of such developments on rural integrity and property rights. County Commissioner Larry Walden acknowledged these concerns but emphasized the limited power of county government in regulating property use compared to cities.
